Debate September 2019

Two Broxburn Academy pupils, Emma Bell and Ruby Ferguson, recently competed in the national juniors debating competition final. They were defending the title they won last year in incredible circumstances as first year debaters.

Throughout this year's competition they won 5 separate rounds, knocking out several teams on the way including; Craigmount, Stewart's Melville, Mary Erskine, Heriot's, Watson's, Edinburgh Academy, Queensferry & Loretto. Overall, they got to the last four out of nearly 100 teams.

In the final they were up against teams from Mearns Castle, Douglas Academy & St Columba's and had to debate the viability of banning political parties. As always - they were incredible ambassadors for the school and we could not be prouder by the way they represented the school.

After a very tight decision the team finished runners up to a strong Douglas Academy team. The girls have learned a lot during this years contest and have done themselves and the school proud.
