The show premiered on Broadway in 1950 where it ran for 1,200 performances and won the Tony Award for Best Musical.

  • "Many thanks for inviting me to your school production of 'Guys and Dolls'. I get to see many productions in my role as Cabinet Secretary for Culture but very few have touched me in the way your production did. The character acting and musicality of your cast - and not just your very talented principals - was very impressive. The movement, direction and choreography of the production was pacy, lively and displayed and clearly brought out the best of the cast. The orchestra was a performance in itself and please pass on my sincere thanks to all and it reaffirmed my conviction to maintain the Youth Music Initiative to support the nurturing of talent by such skilled musicians. Your four main characters drew the audience in and their presence and command belied their years. 'Sarah' was magical and 'Sky' was even more charismatic than Marlon Brando, 'Adelaide' was witty and engaging and 'Nathan' had the whole audience behind him in being torn this way and that. I was particularly impressed with the unity of the ensemble performance and how every member of the cast worked with each other. The dancing was clearly of a high standard set by the girls and with willingness of the boys to match them.  Guys and Dolls is one if not my favourite musical and I went home with the songs ringing in my ears. You clearly have something special going on in your school with the drama club and this is a great credit to your pupils and the staff who inspire them. Your production will stay with me for a long time and I will be sure to broadcast what talent we have in West Lothian. Your pupils are clearly living for the moment and expressing themselves in song, dance and drama. I know from my own experience in school that some of the biggest influences in later life come from the memories working together in theatrical performances and the benefits will last a lifetime. Congratulations to all involved in the production from the swift professional scene shifting and artistic designs to the people on stage. I am very proud as your MSP to know we have such young people capable of achievement of such quality."  Fiona Hyslop MSP for Linlithgow
  • "I saw the show Guys and Dolls last night - it was amazing! I have never seen a such a professional school production!"
  • "The sets, the music, the dancing, choreography, singing and acting were all fantastic.  Those playing leading roles truly shone and the hall was transformed!  Just like any professional show I have been to see, I was transported to the scene and, forgetting my surroundings (and even what day it was!) I was drawn in hook, line and sinker!"
  • "Congratulations to every last person involved and watch out Broadway!!"
